Interdependent Communication - Bridging the Communication Gap from Intention to Perception
A Talk by Shannon Lea Pickering (Founder, Shannon Lea Enterprises)
About this Talk
Have you ever had this experience: you communicate from a place of positive intention, but your communication is perceived as negative intent?
Most of us relate to this scenario which leaves us feeling misunderstood, psychologically unsafe, unappreciated, or not seen and heard.
My name is Shannon Pickering. I have been a licensed psychologist, an adjunct professor of psychology, and a leader and trainer at a Global Fortune 500 company. I am currently a positive psychology coach and consultant.
Feeling misunderstood, unappreciated, and psychologically unsafe, were common, and frankly traumatic, experiences in all my former careers. I became fascinated with ways to communicate in a way that my intention was perceived as intended.
When I discovered a method of communication called Interdependent Communication, I realized it was definitively the best method of bridging the gap from how communication is intended to ensuring it is perceived as intended. As you may have heard, "It's not the intent, it's the impact."
In this presentation you will learn the basic concepts of Interdependent Communication, as well as a simple 3 step formula to start putting it to practice.
